The Storytelling Network of Kronoberg

The Storytelling Network of Kronoberg

It is a nonprofit organization that cares about the oral tradition and wants to contribute to the oral storytelling tradition being carried on. We want to spread knowledge of folktales and legends, while we strive to highlight people’s own stories in today’s society. We also act as a network between people who are interested in storytelling.

We are located in Ljungby (south Sweden) where we run The Museum of Legends which has many activities directed both to the public and to schools. Each year we arrange Ljungby Storytelling Festival, where about 50 storytellers from around the world come to tell their best stories.

During the rest of the year, we organize a variety of performances, lectures and university courses. We have educational activities ranging from 8 months to the oldest. We also hand out the Mickel Prize with which we pay attention to someone who has made great efforts to preserve oral tradition.

The Storytelling Network of Kronoberg has members from all over the Nordic countries.

We are also active in the work of implementing the UNESCO Convention of Safeguarding the Intangible Cultural Heritage with the Institute for Language and Folklore. We participate in the work of preservation, documentation, transfer of knowledge, training, research and practice of oral traditions and expressions.
